Painting – Lupine Pups

Description:
Over a period of four weeks, students will develop and apply an understanding of the elements of art through acrylic painting. Through a variety of exercises, students will develop an array of paint application techniques, all while learning how to develop their own original work.

Week One – Learning the Basics
An introduction of materials such as paint, medium and different types of brushes.
Colour Theory – Making our own colour wheel by learning how to mix colours.

The younger pups will be making their own colour wheel, and learning about the different colour schemes, warm and cool colours and how to mix paint. Students will be provided with activities and information to pursue at home in their workbooks.

The older pups will be doing the same activities as well as a value scale, and learning about hue and value, colour matching as well.

Week Two – Layers and Texture
Learning about paint application and the magic of layers and texture!

The younger pups will be focusing on texture and paint application while learning about past and present abstract artists.

The older pups will be learning about effective ways to apply paint, layer, and create texture while exploring elements of art such as line, shape, form, colour, texture, space and value.
We will be discussing and exploring how acrylic mediums can help us achieve finished works.

Week Three – The not so still life! A focus on process
This lesson will focus on the process of developing a painting. We will be learning about how to go from idea to finished painting. Working from a simple still life, we will be making some sketches, talking about composition, choosing our palettes, and transferring our vision to canvas.

The older pups will also be discussing and brainstorming ways that we can incorporate elements of art and design into our work to make them dynamic and interesting.

Week Four – Ready to fly! Bringing it all together
This week the younger pups will be either be finishing up their still life or beginning a self directed work with a subject of their own choosing.

This week the older pups will be working a self directed work with a subject of their own choosing, with a focus on incorporating the elements of art and design.
