Class Description:
In this painting class, you will learn a whole host of different skills and techniques while you explore your own style of art making! The mood is relaxed, welcoming and supportive – a place to make friends or just zone out in your own creative space.
This class is designed to be taken multiple times with varying projects that will gently challenge your creative barriers and expand on your capabilities. This is a class is for you if you want to produce your own style of work with the support and guidance on how to achieve that.
Below is a sample of what we may teach in a given session (will differ from session to session). Check back closer to the class start to see the actual projects we are developing.
Sample Lessons (will vary – projects will differ from previous classes):
Intuitive Painting
You will be guided step-by-step as we practise different brush strokes, explore colour theory, and create layers of paint. This class is a basic overview/introduction to using acrylic paint.
Image Development
We will use a picture from a magazine or book and apply different image development techniques to it.
Stretching and Priming Raw Canvas
We will stretch our own canvas using stretcher bars, then prime the canvas with gesso. If time permits, we will start planning for the portrait painting in the class to follow.
Painting a Memory
Bring in a photograph from home and we will learn how to break it down, simplify, and how different colours can affect mood… then paint it on our fresh canvas!
Collage in Painting
We will create a “quick” painting then cut it up to use it as the basis for another painting to add texture and additional layers.
