Class Description:
Not a showy medium, but Drawing is the foundational skill of all things art. This class will help get you started in the right direction for other all other mediums, including Watercolour and Acrylic Painting.
Beginners will find this class to be a comfortable pace as we touch on essentials and give you guidance on the techniques to improve your drawing skills. Experienced drawers that want to brush up will value the time for practice by refining and developing skills and techniques. You won’t get flunked if you don’t do it, but the homework given will further develop your skills through practice.
Advancing your drawing ability is a significant tool that can be applied to all other mediums of art. This course uses many techniques from the renowned book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards.
Week 1 – Introduction to Drawing
We will start with a simple introduction to materials and then complete a “pre-instruction drawing” and an upside-down drawing.
Week 2 – Contour Drawing
In this class you will complete a blind contour, contour and modified contour drawing while learning about the picture plane.
Week 3 – Negative Space
Learn about negative space and how it can help you see correctly. You will complete a negative space drawing of a simple object.
Week 4 – Light and Shadow
Have fun with shading techniques, creating a value scale and learning to look at the shapes of light and shadow.
Week 5 – The Whole
In this class we will put together the skills we have learned so far to create a final drawing.
