This beginner workshop is for those wanting to be introduced to various drawing techniques that will benefit all of your art endeavours. We will explore a wide range of projects throughout the day that will build foundational drawing skills.
This workshop is based on many techniques from the renowned book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards.
- Introduction to drawing – We will start with a simple introduction to materials and some warm up exercises.
- Contour drawing – In this class you will complete a blind contour, contour and modified contour drawing while learning about the picture plane.
- Negative space – Learn about negative space and how it can help you see correctly. You will complete a negative space drawing of a simple object.
- Light & shadow – Have fun with shading techniques, creating a value scale and learning to look at the shapes of light and shadow.

All supplies are included. That means you just show up!
Who is this class for:
Designed for adults with any level of experience.
What to bring:
We have some aprons, but wear clothes that can withstand the elements (i.e. glue, paint, etc.) of a fun, creative art studio. Nothing else is required. You can bring a lunch if you like, but we are right downtown and will be taking a break for lunch so there is time to go get something.

Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before scheduled start time.
