Class Description:
Learn watercolour basics in this 3 hour beginners workshop with local artist Nicole Warrington.

In this beginner’s class, you will learn a contemporary approach to creating beautiful mini-landscapes. Explore the versatility of watercolours through creative play as well as guided drawing and painting. We will draw inspiration from our West Coast surroundings to paint oceans, mountains, clouds and trees.

You will explore colour mixing, layering using both wet and dry brush techniques, different ways to create texture, and how to combine watercolour with pen and graphite drawing.

If you have a sketchbook, bring it along (not mandatory). Nicole will talk about different types of sketchbooks and paper you can use when you take your new watercolour skills home to play! She will bring along her personal sketchbooks for you to peek through and gain inspiration from.

What is included:
All artist quality supplies are included. That means you just show up! Bring a sketchbook if you want, but not required.

Bonus: You are welcome to attend a free drop-in to Your Studio during on Feb 19, 20, 21 to continue working on your piece that was started in this workshop.

Who is this class for:
Designed for adults with any level of experience.

What to bring:
We have some aprons, but wear clothes that can withstand the elements (i.e. glue, paint, etc.) of a fun, creative art studio. Nothing else is required. Bringing your own sketchbook is optional.

Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before scheduled start time.

About Nicole:
“I am an artist, mother, teacher and adventurer. I was raised in Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver by an outdoorsy family that adventured in the mountains during the winter and sailed the B.C. coast during the summer. I have lived in Victoria and Vancouver and now love calling Comox Valley my home. I enjoy art making, hiking, yoga and exploring the forest, mountains and beaches with my husband and young daughter. I started my formal art training with a Studio Arts Diploma at Capilano College and went on to complete my Bachelor of Fine Art at the University of Victoria, majoring in Visual Arts and Art History.

I have exhibited my landscape paintings in galleries in Greater Vancouver and Comox Valley. Locally I have exhibited at Art Alchemy, the Comox Valley Art Gallery Gift Shop, The Central Island Studio Tour and several cafes.”
