Acrylic Painting 2 – Texture, Rhythm, Claude Monet

Class Description:
In this session we will focus in the use of texture and rhythm in painting while using Claude Monet’s work to guide us.

In the first class we will look at texture and its importance in painting. We will examine not only Monet’s, but other artists paintings to see how they have utilized texture to describe how something feels, whether implied or actual.  We will then create our own paintings that focus on creating texture.

During the second class, we delve into rhythm and explore how different artists use this principle in their paintings. We will then do a painting project that focuses on the use of rhythm.

For the third class, we look at a few of Monet’s iconic works and students will have the opportunity to learn his techniques while replicating one of his paintings.

In the last two classes, students will bring in their own reference image and we will go over composition, colour choice, editing and image transfer. Students will have the opportunity to work on this painting over the course of two classes, for a total of 4 hours.

“Wonderful place to make art! Everyone is really helpful and the atmosphere encourages a sense of fun which really helps you feel like you can create! Just the right amount of support from our teacher to feel like you know what to do but still have space to explore your own ideas. The yummy cookies help too ;)” – Zoë Baker

Note – Students who have taken this class with Jess before know that we do NEW projects every session, so you won’t get bored taking this class multiple times!
