Acrylic Painting 2 – Space, Movement, Emily Carr

Class Description:
In this session we will focus in the use of space and movement in painting while using Emily Carr’s work to guide us.

In the first class we will look at space and its importance in painting. We will examine, not only Carr’s, but other artists paintings to see how space is conveyed by looking at the areas around, within, or between images. We will then create our own paintings that focus on creating space.

During the second class, we delve into movement and explore how different artists use this principle in their paintings. We will then do a painting project that focuses on the use of movement.

For the third class, we look at a few of Carr’s iconic works and students will have the opportunity to learn her techniques while replicating one of her paintings.

In the last two classes, students will bring in their own reference image and we will go over composition, colour choice, editing and image transfer. Students will have the opportunity to work on this painting over the course of two classes, for a total of 4 hours.

“Lupine Art Studio rocks! I have recently completed the Acrylics 2 Painting class with wonderful instructor Jess, and I enjoyed it immensely. Jess provides the right mix of instruction by offering some theory with concrete examples, followed by plenty of time for students to experiment with the ideas in the lesson.” — Joan Udell

Note – Students who have taken this class with Jess before know that we do NEW projects every session, so you won’t get bored taking this class multiple times!
