Class Description:

When you step into our studio for this painting class, you’ll feel a welcoming and supportive vibe that is essential in developing your own artistic style. This class is designed for all experience levels. The projects are fun and challenging – you will most definitely come out with painting skills that can be applied to any of your artistic pursuits.

Our teaching style ensures you won’t be going home with the same thing as the person next to you. This class is about exploring and developing your own style, even if you think it doesn’t exist yet.

Don’t worry if you feel like you don’t have ideas… our teachers LOVE brainstorming and problem solving and all that good stuff – we promise we won’t let you leave with a blank canvas!

Here’s a sample of what we typically teach in this class (may differ depending on delivery format):

Week 1 – Intuitive Painting
You will be guided step-by-step as we practise different brush strokes, explore colour theory, and create layers of paint.

Week 2 – Tonal Underpainting
You will create a tonal underpainting, then use glazes to subtly build up your painting.

Week 3 – Image Development
You will create a series of paintings by applying a different image development technique to the same subject.

Week 4 – Stretching Canvas
You will learn how to stretch and prime your own canvas to get it ready for painting.

Week 5 –Portrait Painting
You will be lead the process of creating a portrait. We will go over basic face and body proportions then create a simplified but interesting background.

Week 6 –Using Acrylic Skins
You will create your own acrylic skins and then learn how to incorporate them into your painting.

Wednesdays 3:00pm – 5:00pm (5 Classes) – Starts Nov 15
Thursdays 6:00pm – 8:00pm (6 Classes) – Starts Nov 9
* Can’t make them all? Let us know ahead of time and you can jump into a Your Studio or similar class if available (some restrictions apply).

What is included:
All artist quality supplies are included. That means that you just show up!

Who is this class for:
Open to adults of all skill levels.

What to bring:
We have some aprons, but wear clothes that can withstand the elements (i.e. glue, paint, etc.) of a fun, creative art studio. Nothing else is required.
